worship
Sundays at 5 PM in homes (Contact rev.abbi.ccc@gmail.com for location)
Worship gives us the vision and sets in motion the practice of living the Way of Jesus Christ in our day-to-day experience. When we gather as a community for worship, we hope to experience God's intention for our living in the world the rest of the week. In worship we partake in God's Kin-dom (peace, justice, wholeness, and celebration) so that we might be equipped to participate in the creation of God's Kin-dom in the world. Our worship is not for us alone, but for the healing of creation.
Reformed and Relevant
Our components of worship reflect a typical Reformed worship service–music, prayers of welcome and confession, pardon and the passing of the peace, scripture and preaching, offering and prayers of the people, communion, and a blessing and sending. However, we have a worship planning team that dreams up ways to creatively embody our worship theme. We love to experiment with our tradition, think outside of the box, and make our worship informal and inviting. Our services aren’t pristine, but real with a vibrant Holy Spirit presence.
The Communion Table
Jesus wasn't killed only because of what he said, but also because of the company he kept, the folx with whom he shared his meals. Coming to this Table is very much a social, political, and theological statement, perhaps the best reminder we have of how to help bring in the Kin-dom. We celebrate the gift of communion every week and ALL are welcome to participate.
Children
Children are an important part of worship and we value having them with all of us during worship. Wiggles and cries, artwork and interruptions are all welcome during worship. We also have a children’s moment called Sacred Space that’s especially intended for children.
Inclusive Language
We intentionally attempt to use language that reflects the biblical images for God, our rich theological traditions, and the diversity found in our world. As stated in Presbyterian Church, (U.S.A)’s Book of Order, "The Church is committed to using language in such a way that all members of the community of faith may recognize themselves to be included, addressed, and equally cherished before God."
Potluck Sunday
Sometimes when we don’t gather in the sanctuary for worship, we extend our meal at the Table and share a potluck meal together. We take turns leading topics of conversation to grow in our faith and relationships. This community time helps us live out our faith and discern acts of mission and advocacy.
